Marimekko Corporation is a leading Finnish textile and clothing design company that was established in 1951. The company designs, manufactures and markets high-quality clothing, interior decoration textiles, bags and other accessories under the Marimekko brand, both in Finland and abroad. Strong and distinctive product design is the cornerstone of Marimekko’s operations and corporate culture. Marimekko also stresses the functionality and practicality aspects of its products.
Maija Isola designed patterns for Marimekko from the 1950s to the 1980s, and may be the most famous Marimekko designer of all time. The best known of Maija Isola’s prints is the “Unikko” poppy print from 1964 that has had a huge revival during the past years.
Textile designer Kristina Isola made her first sketches for fabrics at the age of sixteen as an assistant to her mother, Maija Isola. At present, Kristina Isola designs her own fabric prints and is also responsible for the new colourways of Maija Isola’s designs and the adaptation of the patterns to suit different products.












The Swedish textile designer Anna Danielsson’s expressive prints have been included in Marimekko’s collections since spring 2001. Danielsson’s style can be described as very topical while at the same time timeless.

Iiro A. Ahokas graduated from the University of Art and Design Helsinki in 2001, with an MA from the department of ceramic and glass design. He specialised in product and concept design.


Vuokko Eskolin Nurmesniemi, born in 1930, is the queen fashion in Finland. Eskolin-Nurmesniemi studied at the Arts and Crafts School in Helsinki before she debuted as head designer at Marimekko in 1953, where she remained until 1960. She is still active today, at 80, in the world of fashion design.
